Supervision

Supervision provides the opportunity for those in the helping professions (e.g. counselling, social work, nursing) or line management positions to discuss their day to day work activities, gaining new understandings, new ways of working and new levels of satisfaction as they grow and develop in their roles.

As the supervisor I do not see myself as ‘the expert with the answers’. Rather, my role is to guide a process of exploration that enables the supervisee to reach their goals for each session.

When people contact me looking for a supervisor I suggest an initial session (50-60 minutes), so we can begin to get to know each other and discuss our expectations of the supervision process and how we would work together. In my experience if time hasn’t been spent early in the process to discuss these assumptions and expectations, supervision is less likely to be effective.
